The future of our club is our youth, a.k.a. Hamilton Serbians Youth Soccer Club. It is our goal for all players, grassroots to adults; to learn new skills, develop positive friendships and have fun every year they come back to play!
Our dedicated executive and coaches actively volunteer their time to ensure that: we deliver quality soccer programming; we are prepared to support our community; our participants enjoy their experiences; and our club upholds good standing with our governing organizations; Hamilton Soccer, Ontario Soccer and Canada Soccer.
Hamilton Serbians Soccer Club, is affiliated with Hamilton Soccer, Ontario Soccer and Canada Soccer and abides by all regulatory policies and procedures.
In 2025, Hamilton Serbians is in progress to receive its ‘Quality Soccer Provider License’ which meets Canada Soccer Standards for all clubs in Canada. We have coaching staff that are trained and certified through the Responsible Coaching Movement Pledge.
Hamilton Serbians also gives back to our community by donating to local fundraisers with focus on youth; and to families in need locally and abroad. We also like to have fun and host several events throughout the year for all families to enjoy!!
Formed in 1957 and playing their first official soccer season in 1958, the Hamilton Serbians Soccer Club provides a history of accomplishments & growth within our community over the decades. It began on a summer day in 1957, when a group of Serbian men decided to play a game of friendly soccer on a Sunday morning. They didn’t realize that in 1957 it was unacceptable to play soccer on Sunday morning and they were forced off the field by local police officers. These newcomer Serbian men decided to come back the following Sunday in the afternoon which to their surprise they shared the field with a competitive soccer club called Holland Bakery and played them in an informal exhibition game to win 3-0. This prompted them to form a Serbian soccer club and a meeting was called at the Serbian Church on Beech Road for the English- speaking members of the community to guide them in forming the first competitive Serbian soccer club in Hamilton. It was unanimously decided that the team would be called the “Hamilton Serbians Soccer Club” and since 1958 the club has played soccer every year.
By 1962, the Hamilton Serbians were League Champions and finalists for both the Spectator Cup and Ontario Cup titles:
-13 Hamilton Spectator Cup Championship titles (1973, 1975, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1998, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2022)
-2 Ontario Cup championships (1982 and 1998).
Playing at the highest level of amateur soccer in the province, the Hamilton Serbians have taken pride in being finalists and semi-finalists for numerous tournaments over the decades, including the Skyway Cup championships. Of note is the club’s accomplishment in winning the Inter-City soccer league title three years in a row in the early 1980’s.
After winning the Hamilton and District soccer League in 2003, the club joined the Ontario Soccer League and began participating in the OSL in 2004. In 2005, the Hamilton Serbians became the first Serbian club in Ontario to win the Ontario Regional Soccer League’s League Cup, the Frank Docherty Cup.
In addition, the club has won the Ontario Regional Soccer League’s League Championship in 2006, 2012, and 2013. The club holds the Ontario Provincial Division title for 2007 and have been finalists in the league.
The Hamilton Serbians Soccer Club has also won the North American Serbian Championship “Srbijada” twice, in 2007 Vancouver and 2008 Hamilton. In 2008, our club was honoured to host the “Srbijada” North American Soccer Tournament in Hamilton. We hosted over 50 teams in the senior competitive men’s divisions with teams from Vancouver, Phoenix, Florida, Chicago, New York, Ottawa and more. The 3- day tournament and events were successfully hosted in partnership with St. Nicholas Cathedral on Nash Rd for our banquet and evening festivities. It was an exciting accomplishment to be city host and two-time tournament champions.
In 2014, the Hamilton and District Soccer Association recognized our club amongst our peers with an inaugural induction into the Hamilton District Soccer Hall of Fame. Our club was honoured with the inaugural award for “Club of Distinction” into the Hamilton District Soccer Hall of Fame to recognize our years of performance and dedication. This achievement is shared by thousands of athletes, coaches, sponsors, volunteers and organizers that have supported our club since 1958.
The Hamilton Serbians Soccer Club is one of the oldest and longest running amateur soccer organizations in Ontario and the Greater Hamilton area.
In the early 2000s, the Hamilton Serbians Soccer Club reestablished the Hamilton Serbians Youth soccer program which has consistently grown each year to serve over 250-300 youth players annually from house-league programs (U3 to U7) to youth grassroots, community and competitive teams for boys and girls (ages U8 – and up).
In 2013 our Youth Soccer Club executive initiated an accord with the 2012 Membership Board of “Shady Acres” Binbrook, to install a new mini-turf soccer field, a new full size soccer field and enhancements to the existing full size soccer field. This project valued at over $100,000 was made possible by generous community donations and endless hours of volunteer work on and off the field. These soccer fields have provided our Serbian and local community a special place to gather and share more than just the love of soccer. Here together, we share our community spirit, our families, our friendships and timeless memories for all to enjoy.
In 2022, the executive members of Hamilton Serbians Youth Soccer and Hamilton SNF (Serbian National Federation) Basketball rejoined to create a vision of expanding our sports programs for youth within Hamilton and surrounding areas. This goal would include one facility for multi-sport programs such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, golf and more, under the umbrella of a potential Hamilton Serbians Sports Centre. As this idea evolves into the future, our dedicated volunteers continue to support each others initiatives and focus on delivering the best sports program experiences for all ages in our community.
In 2023, Hamilton Serbians celebrated our 65th anniversary by hosting a dinner event with trophy memorabilia displayed on “memory lane”. We also honoured several original players from the 1958 team that are still with us in Hamilton!
In 2025, Hamilton Serbians Soccer Club is in process to be licensed certified as a ‘Quality Soccer Provider’ by Canada Soccer standards mandated for all soccer clubs in Canada. This standard is a testament to our clubs’ integrity of good standing with our governing organizations (Hamilton Soccer, Ontario Soccer and Canada Soccer) and meeting the expectations of providing developmentally appropriate, safe, fun, accessible and welcoming playing environments for athletes of all ages to keep coming back each year!
To honour our soccer legacy into the future, we look forward to your ongoing support and leadership as a community, to uphold our top amateur men’s soccer team programs, and to continuously develop our youth grassroots soccer programs for our children to thrive, play, learn and grow stronger together in the spirit of sport, friendship and community!
